Since 1960 Calspan has trained US and foreign, military and commercial, test pilots and flight test engineers in stability and control, flight controls, handling qualities, and flight test techniques related to these topics. This instruction has been part of the formal Test Pilot School curricula as well as intensive one or two-week short courses in classical stability and control through advanced flight control system research topics. Courses include classroom, simulator, and flight demonstrations in a variable stability aircraft. To support the US military test pilot schools Calspan has full-time staff based both at the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, CA as well as at the Naval Air Warfare Center at NAS Patuxent River, MD. Calspan deploys one of its Learjet in-flight simulator aircraft to France and the United Kingdom annually to support the French Test Pilot School and various other flight test centers and the aerospace industry in Europe.
