Overview of the Crash Data Research Center (CDRC)
  • The Calspan Crash Data Research Center (CDRC) has been a pioneer in highway safety research since 1953, performing studies that have resulted in standard safety features in motor vehicles and in the improvement of highway design.
  • CDRC operates the world's largest crash research program providing real-world data to government and industry on the crashworthiness of passenger vehicles and light trucks.
  • CDRC research has focused on the causal factors of large truck and passenger vehicle crashes.
  • CDRC also conducts government-sponsored in-depth crash investigations of new and emerging safety technologies, vehicle defects, and air bag deployment issues.
Capabilities
  • Provides detailed data pertaining to vehicle damage assessment
  • Obtains occupant kinematics, occupant injury sources, safety belt usage indicators, air bag system performance
